Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:
- Every squad has only 8 real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Player Input
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
