Catastrophe Occurs as Unintentional Blast at Law Enforcement Facility in Kashmir Region Under Indian Control Takes Nine Fatalities
A catastrophic explosion at a law enforcement facility in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir has caused the loss of nine individuals and wounding to thirty-two others, according to official statements.
The event happened when a cache of impounded blast substances accidentally blew up during processing activities.
Chronology of Events
The detonation occurred on Friday evening at the Nowgam security post, where explosive materials seized from the Faridabad area in the northern province of Haryana state were being kept briefly.
Local law enforcement head declared that the detonation substances were awaiting technical investigation when a "extremely tragic" incident during processing led to their blast at approximately 11:20 PM local.
Official Declarations
Police authorities verified that this was an "inadvertent blast" and rather than a terrorist attack. "Alternative theories regarding the cause of this event is unneeded," emphasized the law enforcement head during a media conference.
The law enforcement facility suffered extensive destruction from the blast, with nearby constructions also being impacted by the strong explosion.
Consequences and Fatalities
Multiple vehicles were "engulfed in flames and reduced to charred husks, with debris scattered across the area," according to police accounts.
"The force of the blast was such that some body parts were retrieved from adjacent homes, approximately 100-200 meters distant the security post," reported an authority informant.
Most of the fatalities were law enforcement personnel, along with technical investigation team, two evidence documentation specialists, and a tailor who was present with the personnel.

The area's Administrative Head stated sympathies and confirmed that an inquiry had been directed into the devastating event.
"I have directed a inquiry to determine the origin of the unintentional blast. Extremely pained by the loss of precious lives due to exceptionally devastating unintentional explosion at Nowgam law enforcement facility in Srinagar city. My commiserations to the grieving relatives. I pray for speedy recovery of the injured," wrote the official on online channels.
