Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
