Baroque Works is poised to make a major impact in Netflix’s upcoming season of One Piece, though the real showdown won’t unfold until season 3, and a adored, audience-beloved member has just been cast.

The streaming service revealed this week that the skilled actor has joined the One Piece cast for the third season and will play Bentham. Bon Clay has the ability to change into an exact copy of any individual they’ve laid a hand on with their main hand. Escola, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, will portray a version of that role re-envisioned as non-binary identifying, instead of as a drag queen, in the real-life adaptation, differing from the initial comic and animated series.

The new cast member is joined by multiple fresh additions who will portray Baroque Works to the screen, such as chief Mr. 0, played by the seasoned performer, Sophia Anne Caruso as a key member, and an accomplished actor, who will appear as the lineup as the ruler of the desert kingdom.

Though this character is a major member of Baroque Works, the character will be introduced in One Piece season 3. Considering the second season set to cover the Little Garden arc, this signals a significant shift in the placement of the character’s debut, one that could signal more adjustments to the narrative framework.

Escola’s blend of sharp comedic timing and emotional depth makes them a standout choice for the role. Besides their latest vocal work in the animated coming-of-age film Boys Go to Jupiter, they earned widespread acclaim and several accolades for creating and performing in the hit comedy play Oh Mary!, emphasizing the versatility they’ll contribute to one of One Piece’s widely praised characters.
