Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Wilder
The striker has joined Sheffield United just half a year after leading derogatory chants targeting their manager, Wilder.
This experienced striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a contract with the second-tier strugglers until January. His lengthy spell at Elland Road concluded amicably in August.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds included starting abusive songs about Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion party in April. Now, the former England player is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift his beloved club away from the bottom places.
Past History Between Bamford & Wilder
Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds moved up to the top flight last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
All appears to have been resolved with United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his career.
The Wilder chant spread widely in April. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.
Chris Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and admired him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel too and had a longer discussion together and he's a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to give it and accept it and that’s part and parcel of the game at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”
Recent Playing Struggles
Bamford made 18 appearances with Leeds United last season but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro player has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
