Enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the launch of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait too much longer. A highly anticipated trial experience is set to become available on Jan. 7, providing a substantial look into the game's opening hours. Notably, any progress earned within this demo can be carried over directly into the main game upon its February debut.

More Than a Straightforward Re-release: A Thorough Reimagining

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is a from-scratch reinterpretation of the landmark year 2000 role-playing game, originally known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a distinct step away from other series re-releases, such as the recently released HD-2D versions, this version utilizes a charming 3D aesthetic. The world have been crafted to evoke intricate dioramas, with characters having a delightful stylized look.

"Taking into account the 3DS version, the narrative was remained notoriously lengthy. Consequently, the team reached a conclusion that we wanted to tighten the story, [and] craft an experience for today's gamers."

Major Mechanical Improvements & Updates

The creators have added several changes to refresh the original experience. These include:

  • Quick Overworld Battles: Inspired by modern role-playing games, weaker monsters can now be defeated instantly on the overworld map without entering a separate turn-based battle screen.
  • Adjustable Combat Speed: Players can accelerate battle sequences to quickly power through easier encounters.
  • New Job Mechanics: One completely new job class has been created for this reimagining. Additionally, characters gain the option to take on a secondary vocation, significantly expanding strategic possibilities.

Such refinements are aimed at tackle a key the original game's frequent criticisms: its daunting scope. That original adventure was known to require more than 100 hours to finish. This new version has been expressly designed to improve flow and reduce perceived bloat.
