Rob Edwards along with O'Neil represent the initial candidates in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the team's 10-match without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have historic links to the team - are among the names to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

However the former Luton Town head coach - who made over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a leading contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the club board as they begin the search of appointing a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise candidate, although he would be a shock choice given he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham midfielder is out of work meaning the club would not need to provide any compensation.
