The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the onset of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
