Trump Welcomes Families of Attacked Military Personnel to the White House
Former President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the White House.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
White House Invitation
The president explained he’s proposed a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Mourners came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to support policing efforts in DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, stated to the media. “She was kind, considerate and always ready to support those in need.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Steps and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the Trump administration to pause refugee claims and halt issuing visas to holders of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed the program that she also intended to speak to his relatives.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with excellence, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” he addressed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
